Shariatpur, Munshiganj, Tangail to be flooded in 24 hours: FFWC

Live Correspondent: The low-lying areas of Shariatpur, Munshiganj, and Tangail districts may become flooded in the next 24 hours, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) under the Bangladesh Water Development Board (WDB).

Besides, the flood condition may deteriorate in the low-lying areas of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogra, Jamalpur, and Sirajganj districts.

In its rainfall and river situation summary on Sunday (June 19, 2022) afternoon, the FFWC also forecast that the flood situation in Sylhet, Sunamganj, and Netrokona districts may deteriorate in the next 24 hours.

Besides, the FFWC said the water level of Teesta may remain near or above the danger level during the period. The FFWC said all major rivers of the country are on a rising trend.

Citing the numerical weather forecast of meteorological agencies, it had forecast that there is a chance of medium to heavy rainfall (somewhere very heavy) at places in the northern and north-eastern regions of the country along with adjoining states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal of India in the next 48 hours.

As a result, the Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Ganges-Padma, Surma, Kushiyara, Teesta, Dharla, Dudkumar, and all other major rivers may continue rising in the next 48 hours.
