Mymensing Live: Water in both Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers are likely to rise in the next 24 hours, said the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the Water Development Board (WDB) on Friday afternoon.

In its latest 'Rainfall and River Situation With Forecast,' the FFWC said the Brahmaputra river is in a steady state, while the Jamuna river is rising trend.

Water in the Ganges and Padma rivers is on a rising trend, which may continue in the next 48 hours.

On the other hand, all major rivers in the north-eastern region of the country are in a falling trend, which may continue receding in the next 24 hours.

According to the FFWC, the flood situation in Kurigram, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj, and Brahmanbaria districts may improve in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, UNB reports that after a rise over the last two days, the water level of the Surma and Kushiara rivers started receding again in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts on Friday.

Quoting the Water Development Board, reported that the water level of the Surma river has gone down by 10cm at Kanaighat point and 4cm at Sylhet point at 12pm on Friday. The water level in the Kushiara river was stable.

Meanwhile, it drizzled in Sylhet on Friday as well. However, there is no possibility of water rise in these rivers due to this light rain, said AKM Niloy Pasha, deputy assistant engineer of Sylhet WDB.

Besides, rains are likely over in this region for three more days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). Asif Ahmed, the executive engineer of the Sylhet WDB, said that there was no possibility of a fresh flood due to this rain.

In Sunamganj, the water level of the Surma river receded by 13cm in Sadar Municipality on Friday morning. This district recorded 21mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

Road communications in four Upazilas are still cut off as the flood waters have not receded completely. Flood waters receded slightly in Sunamganj municipal town, Kazir point, Bilpara, Nabinagar, and West Natunpara areas.
