Live Correspondent: A record of Tk 4,18,16,744 and gold ornaments have been found opening eight donation drop boxes of the historic Pagla Masjid at Harua in Kishoreganj town.

As many as 20 sacks of taka were found opening the eight donation drop boxes of the mosque on Saturday morning.

Apart from Taka, foreign currency notes like US dollars and British pound sterlings, and gold jewelry were found in the donation drop boxes.

Under the supervision of Kishoreganj deputy commissioner and Pagla Masjid managing committee president Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Additional district magistrate ATM Farhad Chowdhury opened the iron-made drop boxes around 9:00 am on Saturday (January 7).

The money was counted throughout the day which ended at about 7:15 pm. The authorities concerned said the money would be spent to turn Pagla Masjid into an international standard complex.

The drop boxes were opened this time after 3 months and six days. The counting of currency notes was joined by more than 100 students of orphanages and madrasas and bank officials.

They were joined by Kishoreganj senior assistant commissioner Ahna Zinnat, Sheikh Jaber Ahmed, Sultana Razia, additional commissioner Nabila Ferdous, Md Mahmudul Hasan, Rawshan Kabir, Pesh Imam of the mosque Mufti Khalilur Rahman, Rupali Bank assistant general manager (AGM) Rafiqul Islam and managing committee members.

Usually, the money is spent on the development of other mosques, madrasas, and orphanages in the district as well as for the education of poor and meritorious students. However, the mosque's managing committee has taken a different plan this year.

Earlier, the vaults were opened on October 1 last year when Tk 3,89,70,882 and gold ornaments were found in the donation drop boxes.
