8 students commit ‘suicide’ after SSC results

Live Correspondent: At least eight students reportedly committed suicide across the country in last 24 hours after failing the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations and equivalent examinations.

In Shariatpur, Moshadina Rahman Barsha, 17, daughter of Abdul Matin Sarker of Batna village at Gosairhat union, committed suicide by hanging herself as she could not obtain GPA-5 in the examination.

In Habiganj, after failing the SSC examination, one Moni Akter, 18, daughter of Jamal Mia committed suicide at Begunai village of Lakhai upazila. In Gazipur, Manshura, 16, daughter of Hannan Mia of Narayanpur village at Gosinga union of Shreepur upazila, has committed suicide after failing the SSC examinations.

In Thakurgaon, Lima Akhter, 16, daughter of Jahirul Islam of Tinua village of Haripur upazila, committed suicide by hanging herself t at her room.

Victim’s father Jahirul Islam said that after returning from field, he and her wife found Lima hanging at noon. Later, she was taken to Haripur health complex where doctors declared her death, said Md Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station. In Lalmonirhat, a female student committed suicide after she failed in the SSC examination.

Laiju Akter, 17, daughter of Jill Haque, from Uttar Parulia village at Patikapara union of Hatibandha upazila, took anti-acid poisons and fell sick. She was taken to Haibandha Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared her dead.
She had been appearing in the SSC exam for last two years but could not come out as successful.

In Dinajpur, Pata Roy, 16, daughter of Dilip Roy, from Bhadra village at Auliapukur union of Chirirbandar upazila committed suicide after she failed in the SSC examination.

In Joypurhat, one Abu Saiyed, son of Sarwar Hossain of Puranapoil Dastpur village of Joypurhat Sadar upazila, killed herself after the result. In Jhenaidah, a male student committed suicide as he could not obtain GPA-5 in the examination at Shahabajpur village of Moheshpur upazila. The deceased was identified as Piarul Islam, 17
