Live Correspondent: Islamic preacher Abu Twa-had Muhammad Adnan went into hiding at his friend’s house in Gaibandha for personal reasons. Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) Crime Division Deputy Commissioner Abu Maruf Hossain said this at a press conference on Friday. The press conference started at 5:15 pm at the Rangpur DB office. Earlier, Abu Twa-haa was taken to the DB office at around 3.00 pm.

At the press conference, Maruf Hossain said, “During interrogation, Abu Twa-haa told police that he had made a phone call to his wife’s mobile number from Gabtali in the capital on the day of the incident. Then he switched off the mobile phone set. From there he went to a friend’s house in Trimohoni of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. He has not contacted anyone since.”

“He (Abu Twa-haa) was in hiding at a friend’s house for personal reasons. There were two companions with him there. They are drivers Amir Uddin and Muhith and another colleague Mujahid was left in Bogura.”

He further said, “Abu Twa-haa along with a friend came to his father-in-law’s house in Master Para area of Rangpur in the afternoon, leaving another at a friend’s house. We assumed that no group or individual was involved behind his disappearance.”

Deputy Commissioner Abu Maruf Hossain said police rescued him after receiving information about him (Abu Twa-haa). He was then taken from Kotwali Police Station to Detective Branch (DB) office.

“There he was interrogated.”

About the reason for Abu Twa-haa’s hiding, Maruf Hossain at a press conference claimed that they were in hiding for personal reasons. However, when asked about personal reasons, the official said they could not say more at this time. That needs to be verified and the next step will be taken subject to investigation.

Quoting Twa-haa, the police official said Twa-ha has informed police of some of his personal problems and police are checking and sorting those out. The Islamic preacher was rescued on Friday afternoon after missing for a week. Later, police took him to the police station from his in-laws’ house in Master Para adjacent to the Meteorological Office in Rangpur city.

Earlier, Twa-haa with his two companions and driver had not been found since the night of June 10. At around 4 pm on June 10 last, Abu Twa-haa along with his two companions and driver left for Dhaka in a rented car from Rangpur. The last time he spoke on his mobile phone at night, he told his mother that he was going to Savar.

Then at 2:36 am on June 11, Adnan spoke to his first wife Habiba Noor on his mobile phone. He told his wife that he was going to Savar. Since then, his phone was switched off and he could not be reached.

After searching all possible places, Twa-haa’s mother Azeda Begum could not find him and filed a general diary in the afternoon of June 11 with Kotwali police station.
