Live Correspondnt: An Awami League activist filed a complaint with a  court in Chattogram against three people including Dhaka University Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury alleging that they had defamed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The other accused are Chattogram based daily Dainik Azadi's associate editor Rashed Rouf and Nesar Ahmed.

Nazim Uddin Sumon, a resident of Anwara upazila in Chattogram, filed the complaint with the metropolitan magistrate Hossain Mohammad Reza's court on Tuesday afternoon and the court set October 24 for passing an order on the complaint, court officials said.

In his complaint, Nazim claimed himself as 'progressive politician' and said that he believed Sheikh Mujib as the father of the nation.

He alleged that Sheikh Mujib was defamed in an article titled 'Sheikh Mujiber Gopon Shatru' (Secret Enemies of Sheikh Mujib) by DU professor emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury in a book published by Chattogram Academy on March 17, 2020 marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation.

Rashed Rouf is the advisory editor and Nesar Ahmed is the editor of the book.

The plaintiff said he was an AL activist but declined to say whether he was any office bearer of any committee of AL.

Mafizur Rahman, general secretary of Chattogram south district unit of Awami League, said Nazim was involved in the politics of Juba League earlier but now he had no post or position in the party now.

"Before filing a case related to Bangabandhu, one should take permission from the Awami League or the family members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," he said.

"Who gave him the permission to file complaint against Professor Serajul  Islam Choudhury?" Mafizur asked.
