Seven women claim to be Rubel’s wife, wait at morgue

Live Correspondent: Five people of a family were killed after a girder of the BRT project fell on their private car in Dhaka’s Uttara on Monday. The bodies were taken for post-mortem at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the morning. Meanwhile, seven women appeared one by one in front of the hospital demanding their body of Rubel. All of them are claiming them as wives of the deceased Rubel.
On Tuesday afternoon, it was seen that a few women were waiting in front of the morgue along with their sons and daughters.
Talking to the relatives of the deceased Rubel’s wives, it was known that Rehana is first wife of him. He got married to Rehana 30 years ago. Their son Hridoy along with his bride narrowly escaped yesterday’s accident.
Rahmat, the sister-in-law of Rehana, said, “We live in Shariatpur. I knew that Rubel had the business of buying houses. We did not come to Dhaka regularly. Today, we came here after hearing about the death news of him. We heard that he got married for the second time.”
Claiming her as the first wife of Rubel, Shaheda said they have a 14-year-old daughter. Her house is in Singair upazila of Manikganj.
Shaheda said, “I got married to Rubel in 1999. I am the first wife of Rubel. He never told me that he has another wife.”
Another woman who claimed to be Rubel’s third wife is Salma Akhtar Putul. She lives in Dhaka’s Mirpur-10 area and worked as a tailor.
Paul got married to Rubel in 2014. He knew Rubel as a travel agency trader. However, she has no documents of the marriage.
Pata Khandkar also claimed her as their wife of Rubel and said they got married around 2020. Besides, three other women were also waiting for the body in front of the morgue, claiming to be Rubel’s wife.
About the claims of seven wives, Sanjida Akter Ratna, daughter of Shaheda, said, “We did not know about other wives of my father. We learned about it today.”
“Many women are claiming them as my father's wives to get the ownership of his lands,” she added.
