Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader shot by police dies

Brahmanbaria Live: A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader was killed in a clash with the police in Bancharampur Upazila of Brahmanbaria on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Noyon Mia, the vice president of Sonarampur Union JCD of the Upazila. Besides, Bancharampur Municipal Jubo Dal convener Iman Ali was injured in this incident.

Confirming Noyon’s death, Mohsin Hridoy, member secretary of Brahmanbaria District JCD said, BNP, Jubo Dal and JCD leaders and activists were distributing leaflets in the afternoon to make the BNP’s Cumilla division public rally successful on November 26.

All of a sudden, leaders and activists were attacked by the police. At that time, police opened fire, and Sonarampur Union JCD vice-president Noyon Mia was shot. Besides, Iman Ali, convener of Bancharampur Municipal Jubo Dal, was seriously injured.

He also said that Noyon died in the ambulance on the way to Dhaka in critical condition. The injured municipal Jubo Dal convener is being treated at a local hospital.

However, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bancharampur Model Police Station Nure Alam made the opposite complaint and said that BNP- Chhatra Dal leaders and activists attacked the police station in the afternoon. They tried to take away the weapons of the police.

“Five policemen including me were injured by the brickbats thrown by them. The situation is currently normal” he added.

Shiraz Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Nabinagar Circle), said, “We have learned that a youth of Chhatra Dal has died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”

Earlier, Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Md Anisur Rahman said “There was an altercation with the police during the distribution of BNP leaflets. Later, there was a chase with the police. When the police fired a shotgun in self-defense, one person was shot.”
