Legal notice seeks info on privileges taken by resigned BNP MPs

Live Correspondent: A legal notice has been served upon the authorities concerned to submit reports stating facilities enjoyed by seven persons who resigned as BNP MPs from the parliament to press the home party’s various demands.

The notice was sent to the secretary of parliament secretariat, finance secretary, governor of Bangladesh Bank, chairman of NBR, and auditor and comptroller general.

BNP MPs Rumeen Farhana from the reserved seats, Golam Mohammad Sirajul Islam from Bogura-6, Md Aminul Islam from Chapainawabganj-2, Md Mosharraf Hossain from Bogura-4.

Zahidur Rahman from Thakurgaon-3,  Md Harunur Rashid from Chapainawabganj-3, and Abdus Sattar from Brahmanbaria-2 submitted resignation letters to the Speaker of the Parliament on Sunday.

“They (BNP MPs) took an oath to serve people for five years. It is illegal to take state facilities without completing tenure and serving the people of the country,” reads the notice.

The concerned officials have been requested to comply with the legal notice within 72 hours.

Besides, the resigned BNP MPs have been asked to submit lists of facilities they enjoyed within the next seven days.

Failing to submit a report on the privileges taken by the seven resigned MPs will result in appropriate legal action, said the legal notice.

However, Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister ObaidulQuader and other leaders of the ruling party said the resignation of BNP MPs will not cause any constitutional complications to the government.

In the latest development, seats of resigned MPs have been declared vacant after acceptance of resignation letters. The Election Commission said the constituencies will see by-polls.
