5 DU students awarded AF Mujibur Rahman Gold Medal

DU Live: Five meritorious students of the Department of Mathematics of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded ‘AF Mujibur Rahman Gold Medal Award’ for their outstanding academic results in BS (Hons.) and MS examinations. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman distributed this award among the students as the chief guest at a function held today at the departmental auditorium. 

Chairman of the Department of Mathematics of DU Prof. Dr. Amal Krishna Halder presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury, Trustee of the AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation Khushi Kabir and Chairman of the Department of Applied Mathematics Prof. Dr Md. Shafiqul Islam addressed it as special guests. Prof. Dr. Sajeda Banu delivered welcome address.

 Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for practice of mathematics properly and said if we make mistake in mathematics everything would be wrong in the society.  He urged the students to maintain discipline for achieving success in every sphere of life. He also called upon the students to equip themselves with moral values to become good human being as well as skilled mathematician.

The recipients of AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation Gold Medal Award are Saiful Islam, Khokon Chandra, Md. Joshem Uddin, Jannatul Naima Islam and DM Zunayed Kamal Nibir. Two more students have received crest for their excellent performances in National Mathematics Olympiad. Besides, DU Mathematics Department accorded reception to the 1st year BS (Hons.) students at the function.
