JU Live: Four Ansar members were sacked today for assaulting a Jahangirnagar University (JU) student at National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar on Monday evening. The sacked Ansar members are Omar Faruk, Sarowar, Nazrul, and Rozman.

While contacted, Dhaka Zilla commandant of Ansar VDP Afzal Hossain said, ‘We have already expelled four accused members and listed them to ‘Black-list’ so that they cannot apply for the post again.’

The officer also said that necessary steps were being taken to provide the treatment expenses of the victim student. Meanwhile, hundreds of JU students blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway on Tuesday protesting the assault on fellow students.

The protesters staged a human chain in front of the main entrance of the university around 11:30 am and later took position on the highway, triggering long tailbacks on both sides of the highway for around half an hour.

They placed a four-point charter of demands include expulsion of accused Ansar members and brought them to book, bearing the treatment costs of the victim and taking steps regarding illegal visitor’s entry at the national monument.

Later, the protesters withdraw their position following the assurance of accommodating their demands by the officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station SM Kamruzzaman.

The student, Nur Hossain, was assaulted for protesting against irregularities of Ansar members in charge of the memorial, reports our JU correspondent.

Nur Hossain is now undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar for serious injuries to his head, mouth, backbone, hands, and legs.
