Live Correspondent: The British Council has launched its globally renowned digital library in Bangladesh. This is part of the organisation’s efforts to make educational and entertainment resources available to all.

The initiative is aimed at restoring and encouraging a reading culture among Bangladeshis by facilitating self-paced and convenient learning.

As a member of the Digital library, you will have access to world-class resources at the tip of your fingers, from online study resources and academic journals to popular eBooks and audiobooks, award-winning movies and documentaries, magazines and newspapers, comics and graphics novels from around the world and learning resources to develop your skills.

To increase the growth of library access in Bangladesh and create more convenience in people’s lives, British Council Bangladesh provides Digital Library for a small fee. Through the Digital Library , members can access over 2,000 journals from JSTOR; over 15,000 journals from ProQuest Central, 120,000 e-books and audiobooks, and e-magazines including Economists, Amateur Photographer, and New Scientist.

Members can also access over 8,000 movies, short feature films, and documentaries. Around 8,000 e-newspapers from across 100 nations can be accessed along with 40,000 online learning module, e-resources for children, over 16,000 graphic novels and e-comics, theatre performance, music documentaries, and stream live concerts. This is what we call ‘Libray on the go’ (“Library in your pocket”).

The library is critical for any nation, whether it is physical or digital. A library is just not a random collection of books – it creates communities. As Ray Bradbury has said, ‘Without libraries what have we? We have no past and no future.’
