Live Correspondent: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has suggested public universities reduce the duration of the academic year and cancel holidays in a recovery guideline amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The regulator body on Tuesday forwarded its six-point guideline to the vice-chancellors and registrars of all public universities.

In the guidelines, UGC asked to reduce the duration of the conventional/existing academic significantly and acceptably also to reduce or cancel various holidays (summer vacation, winter vacation, festival vacation) to complete the final examination, class, class test, assignment, practical classes and semester within the shortest possible time.

The duration of each class (theoretical and practical) or lecture time cannot be reduced said UGC, adding that even if the number of lectures needs to be reduced, the entire syllabus must be completed.

Earlier, UGC decided to formulate a recovery guideline according to the capacity and reality of the universities at a virtual meeting attended by the Ministry of Education Dr Dipu Moni and the vice-chancellors of all public universities on May 31.
