Live Correspondent: Abul Kalam Azad once again proved that education has no age, no barrier. He is going to sit in the upcoming SSC examination even in the old age of his life to fulfill his long-cherished desire.

Azad is now 67 years old. His house is in Longarpara village of Kharia Kazirchar union of Sreebardi in Sherpur district. Due to poverty, he could not study much, but he made his three sons highly educated.

Among the three sons, the eldest one has become an English teacher, the elder one has completed Kamil and the youngest son is an engineer.

Instilled with the spirit of Azad, the young generation in the area is also motivated in their study.

Abul Kalam Azad is the son of the deceased Abdul Rashid Mandal of Longarpara. Azad was an SSC candidate in 1978. He moved to Dhaka without taking part in the exam due to financial hardship. Then he went to Saudi Arabia for a better future.

Returning home after 18 years, he focused on writing. He wrote various poems and rhymes. Apart from this, he also wrote numerous songs and novels. Two poetry books have also been published.

Abul Kalam Azad said, “I have written 27 poems about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. And I have written five poems about Bangabandhu. I want the opportunity to reach to the Prime Minister through these poems. I have also written poems about the development of the country.”

He started his study with the help of his sons at a late age. This time he is going to sit in the SSC exam from a local school under Open University.

Highlighting the experience of studying at this age, Kalam said, “Many people in the area laughed at first, but no one does that anymore."

His younger brother said, “Abul Kalam Azad is being admired in the area for publishing poetry books and starting academic life at a late age. As they are happy with this news, many are also being motivated to study.”

Dulal Mia, chairman of Kharia Kazirchar UP, said, "He is known as Kobi Kalam in the village. We are very happy that he is patiently taking the SSC exam at such an age.”
