Centenary celebration turns Carmichael College

Live Correspondent: The whole campus of the historical Carmichael College, Rangpur turned into a triumphant look today following beginning of the two-day celebration of the centennial anniversary of the educational institution.

Principal of the college, Professor Dr. Sheikh Anwar Hossain and Convener of centennial anniversary celebration committee Professor Bimal Chandra Roy hoisted the national and institutional flags to begin the celebrations amidst playing of the national anthem.

Later, thousands of registered former and incumbent teachers and students of the institution participated in the colourful centenary ‘Shobhayatra’ (procession) brought out on the college campus, colourfully decorated and illuminated.

Cheerfulness of former and incumbent students and teachers of the college knew no bounds while celebrating its centennial anniversary with the theme of “Hundreds of lives in a hundred years, a triumph of tradition.”

Member-secretary of the centennial anniversary celebration committee Associate Professor, Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury, General Secretary of Rangpur city Awami League (AL) Tushar Kanti Mandal, Joint General Secretary of district AL Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, its Organising Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, among others, participated in the ‘procession ‘.

Later, Principal Professor Dr. Sheikh Anwar Hossain presided over the first day discussion session on the colourful stage erected on the college campus.

Former Principals of Carmichael College Professor Mozammel Haque and Binte Hossain Nasrin Banu, former Head of the Department of Bengali Professor Mohammad Abdul Alim, Professor Bimal Chandra Roy, Professor, Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury, Tushar Kanti Mandal, Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, among others, addressed.

On the inaugural day of the two-day colourful celebration programs today, the celebration committee accorded reception to the family members of the martyred teachers of Carmichael College during the Great War of Liberation in 1971.

The programmes included distribution of crests, discussions, reminiscences and cultural functions featuring songs and group dances by the country’s renowned Betar and television artistes. Besides, artists of the “Joler Gan’ band party began their colourful performances since the late afternoon on the college campus enthralling tens
of thousands of former and incumbents students and teachers of the institution.

On the closing day tomorrow, artistes of different cultural organizations of the college, leading Betar and television artists and artists of LRB, the band party of the late music artist Ayub Bachchu, will render a series of songs. Talking to BSS, Member-secretary of the Centennial Anniversary Celebration Committee Mohammad Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury said former and current registered teachers and students collected T-shirts, bags and directories from different booths today.
