Entertainment Live: Film actress Porimoni walked out of jail on Wednesday morning 26 days after she was arrested with narcotics drugs in her residence at Banani in the capital on August 4.

The actress came out of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail around 9:30am after securing interim bail from a Dhaka court, jail officials said. Earlier in on Tuesday, a Dhaka court granted interim bail to Porimoni until police submit the chargesheet in the drug case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Emrul Kayes passed the bail order upon a bond of Tk 50,000 after hearing on her bail petition.

Earlier, the court fixed September 13 for hearing on Porimoni’s bail petition submitted by her lawyer Mujibur Rahman on August 22.

But, Porimoni’s lawyer went to the High Court challenging the lower court’s decision and sought interim bail for the actress. The High Court issued a rule on August 26, asking why the bail plea of  Dhallywood star Porimoni in the drug case should not be heard sooner.

A Dhaka court sent Porimoni to jail on August 21 after she was produced by CID Inspector Qazi Golam Mostafa, also investigation officer of the case, after the completion of her third-phase remand in police custody in the drug case.

Another court in Dhaka on August 19 granted police one day to grill Porimoni after she spent six days in police custody.

RAB personnel raided Porimoni’s home and detained her and her manager Ashraful Islam Dipu allegedly with bottles of liquor, Yaba tablets and LSD blots on August 4.

Later, a case was filed against them with Banani police station under the Narcotics Control Act.
