BD: Covid-19 infections near 3.5 lakh

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh reported 1,544 more infections from coronavirus over the last 24 hours till Sunday to push the national tally to 348,918. Besides, the casualties linked to the virus have jumped to 4,939 with the deaths of 26 more Covid-19 patients during the period.

Of the new deceased, 17 are men and nine are women. Among the total dead, 3,846 or 77.87 percent are men while 1,093 or 22.13 percent are women.The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 2,179 more patients recuperated from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours to bring the total recoveries to 256,565. During the period, 11,591 samples were tested in 97 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,821,270 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 13.32 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 19.16 percent.

The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh reaching 73.53 percent while the mortality rate is 1.42 percent, one of the lowest in the world. On Friday, Bangladesh reported 22 deaths and 1,541 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,730 samples.

On Saturday, Bangladesh recorded 32 deaths and 1,567 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,170 samples. Meanwhile, coronavirus has so far claimed the lives of 961,400 people around the world as of Sunday morning.

Besides, 30,984,437 have so far been infected with the virus in different countries, according to Worldometer. Of the currently infected 7,439,567 patients, 7,378,181 are in mild condition while 61,386 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 22,583,470 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 6,967,403 and 203,824 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 5,398,230 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 136,565.
