Covid-19 claims 40 more, infects 2,576 others in BD

Live Correspondent: Covid-19 killed 40 more people and infected 2,576 others in the past 24 hours until 8:00am on Thursday. The latest figures take the overall Covid death toll to 12,989 and infections to 820,395 ever since the viral disease emerged on March 8, 2020.

The case positivity rate during the timeline was 13.25 per cent, slightly higher compared with the positivity rate of the previous day.

The daily Covid situation update by Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics. Among the deceased of Thursday, 31 are male and nine are female patients. 

A total of 19,447 samples have been tested in the past 24 hours at 510 laboratories across Bangladesh, said the DGHS update. Some 2,061 patients recovered from the viral disease in the past 24 hours totalling the recovery to 759,630, said the health update.

Meanwhile in Rajshahi, 12 more people died at the Covid units of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in the past 24 hours ending Thursday morning.

RMCH deputy director Saiful Ferdous told New Age that of the dead, seven were Covid-19 positive while the rest ones had symptoms of Coronavirus infection and died before testing their samples.

Of the 12 deceased, he said, six were from Rajshahi district and three were from Chapainawabganj district.

According to the RMCH reports, a total of 92 patients died at the hospital’s corona units in the ongoing month. A total of 36 of them died with Covid symptoms before testing their samples.

India reported a record high of 6,148 Covid-19 deaths during the past 24 hours, taking the total death toll in the country to 359,676, said the federal health ministry on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 94,052 new cases were recorded in the period, for the third consecutive day when less than 100,000 cases were reported in a single day. The total caseload stands at 29,183,121.
