Bangladesh reports 70 more Covid-19 deaths in a day

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh on Sunday reported 2,430 COVID-19 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 70 lives. The country reported 9.66 percent COVID-19 positive cases as 25,163 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement.

The official tally showed the virus killed 26,563 people and infected 15,14,456 so far, it added.
 
The recovery rate rose to 95.81%, while the case fatality remained static at 1.75 per cent compared to the corresponding period.

Among the new deaths, 31 died in Dhaka division, 20 in Chattogram, three each in Khulna and Rajshahi, six in Sylhet, and four in Rangpur, two in Barishal and one in Mymensingh divisions.

Of them, 40 were men and 30 women. Bangladesh logged 61 Covid-19 deaths and 1,743 cases on Saturday.

The country last saw 112 Coronavirus-related deaths on June 29 and the upswing in the fatalities reached its peak on August 5 and 10 when 264 deaths were recorded.

However, the situation was much more catastrophic from June to the better part of August as the country experienced a surge of Covid-related caseloads and deaths during that time.

Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July, there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
