Mawlana Mahmudul Hasan has been made acting president of the Qawmi madrasa education board, Befaq as the post fell vacant after the death of former chief Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi.
He was appointed as acting president of the board in a meeting at Befaq's head office in capital Dhaka Jatrabari on Saturday, sources in Befaq said.
Allama Mahmudul Hasan is the Khatib (a person who delivers the sermon, during the Friday prayer and Eid prayers) of Gulshan Azad mosque and Muhtamim (director general) of Jamia Islamia Darul Ulum Madania, Jatrabari.
