Coronavirus cases in BD see biggest jump by 1,617

Live Correspondent: Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh continue to set new record every day as highest 1,617 more were reported in the last 24 hours till Wednesday, taking the total to 26,738. Besides, the death toll from Covid-19 in the country has jumped to 386 with 16 more deaths during the period.

This is the highest daily surge in coronavirus cases in Bangladesh since the first three cases were reported on March 8. On May 18, previous highest 1,602 cases were reported in the country.

The uptick in the number follows an increase in tests with highest 10,207 conducted during the period.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon. 

She said 214 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 5,207.

Prof Nasima said highest 10,207 were tested in 43 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 203,852 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh reported record 21 deaths from coronavirus and 1,251 cases.Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 324,911 as of Wednesday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 4,986,406 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 2,702,970 patients, 2,657,547 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, while 45,423 or 2 percent remain in critical condition. So far, 1,958,525 people have made recovery from the disease.

The virus is currently affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
