Live Correspondent: About 2 crore electricity connections across the country, were cut off by Cyclone Amphan which lashed the country’s south western region on Wednesday night.
Mohammad Hossain, director general of Power Cell, said they could restore the 50 percent of the connections as of 2 pm on Thursday.
He hoped that they will be able to restore around 80 percent of the power supply in the areas affected by the cyclone within Thursday.
Out of total 36.4 crore power connections across the country, Hossain said around 2 crore got disconnected during the storm as many uprooted trees fell on the electricity transmission and distribution lines.
Sources at the Power Division, said around 1.5 crore consumers of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) fell into blackout as their connections were cut off.
The power utility bodies have been working to restore the power connections as soon as possible.
