Highest single-day 24 deaths from coronavirus, 1,694 new cases

 

 

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh hit a record high for new coronavirus deaths as 24 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours till Friday, taking the tally in the country to 432.Besides, it has 30,205 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 1,694 more reported during the period.

This is the highest daily surge in deaths from coronavirus in the country since first death was reported in the country on March 18. Highest 22 deaths were previously recorded on Thursday.

 

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 588 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 6,190.

Prof Nasima said 9,727 were tested in 47 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 223,841 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Thursday, Bangladesh reported record 22 deaths from coronavirus and highest 1,773 cases. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have seen a rise around the world as over 1 lakh more reported in the last 24 hours till Friday morning to take the total to 5,194,106.

Besides, the global death toll from the coronavirus has stood at 334,616, according to Worldometer. Of the currently infected 2,778,567 patients, 45,620 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 2,080,923 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Coronavirus is affecting over 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

The US has been the worst-hit country having the highest number of infections and deaths at 1,620,902 and 96,354 respectively.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
