BD confirms 21 more coronavirus deaths, 1166 new cases

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh reported 21 more deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Tuesday, taking the death toll in the country to 522. Besides, the country has now 36,751 confirmed coronavirus cases with further 1,166 reported during the period.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 245 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 7,579. Prof Nasima said 5,407 samples were tested in 48 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 258,494 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Monday, Bangladesh reported record 21 deaths from coronavirus and highest 1,875 cases. Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 347,907 as of Tuesday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 5,590,358 people around the world, according to Worldometer. Of the currently infected 2,875,877 patients, 2,822,710 are in mild condition while 53,167 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 2,366,574 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. The US is the worst-hit country with highest deaths and coronavirus cases in the world -- 99,805 and 1,706,226 -- respectively.

Coronavirus is affecting over 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
