Bangladesh sees highest 40 deaths in a day, 2,545 new cases

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh has seen the sharpest rise in both deaths and infections from coronavirus since the virus outbreak began in the country. Record 40 deaths and highest 2,545 coronavirus cases were registered in the last 24 hours till Sunday, taking the tallies to 650 and 47,153 respectively.


This is the highest surge in coronavirus cases and deaths in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8 and first death was recorded on March 18. Previous highest 28 deaths were recorded on May 24 and 30 while highest 2,523 cases were reported on May 29.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 406 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 9,781.

Prof Nasima said highest 11,876 samples were tested in 52 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 308,930 samples have so far been tested in the country In comparison with the samples tested in the last 24 hours, she said, the infection rate was 21.43 percent.

On Saturday, Bangladesh reported 28 deaths from coronavirus and 1,764 cases.
Meanwhile, global coronavirus cases continued to rise across the world as around 1.25 lakh cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

Confirmed coronavirus cases around the world have jumped to 6,150,483, including 124,103 during the period. Besides, the death toll from the virus has reached 370,506 with 4,084 more reported during the period, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 3,045,431 patients, 2,991,928 are in mild condition while 53,503 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 2,734,546 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
