Bangladesh’s coronavirus cases jump by 2,423

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh reported 35 more deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours till Thursday, taking the death toll in the country to 781. Of the deceased, 29 are men while six are women. Besides, the confirmed coronavirus cases in the country have shot to 57,563 with the detection of 2,423 infections during the period.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon, She said 571 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 12,161.

Prof Nasima said 12,694 samples were tested in 50 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 358,277 samples have so far been tested in the country. In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 19.09 percent, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.13 percent while the mortality rate is 1.36 percent in the country.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 37 deaths from coronavirus and 2,695 cases.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 388,041 as of Thursday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 6,573,540 people around the world, according to Worldometer. Of the currently infected 3,014,994 patients, 2,960,794 are in mild condition while 54,200 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 3,170,505 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
