Death toll passes 1,400 in Bangladesh

Live Correspondent: The death toll from coronavirus surged past 1,400 in Bangladesh to reach 1,425 with the death of 37 Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours till Saturday. Besides, the confirmed coronavirus cases in the country have jumped to 108,775 with the detection of 3,240 more infections during the period.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,048 more patients recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 43,993.Prof Nasima said 14,031 samples were tested in labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 599,579 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 23.09 percent, she said. The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.14 percent while the mortality rate is 1.31 percent.

On Friday, Bangladesh recorded 45 deaths from coronavirus and 3,243 cases.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have reached 8,758,270 around the world as of Saturday morning.

Besides, the global death toll from Covid-19 has stood at 462,525, according to Worldometer. Of the currently infected 3,670,258 patients, 3,615,465 are in mild condition while 54,793 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 4,625,487 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,297,190 and 121,407 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd place with 1,038,568 cases and 49,090 deaths respectively.
