Coronavirus cases soar by 3,946 in BD

live Correspondent: Bangladesh reported 3,946 more coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours till Thursday, raising the total 126,606. This is the 2nd highest jump in daily coronavirus cases in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8. Highest 4,008 cases were registered in the country on June 17.

Besides, the death toll from Covid-19 has reached 1,621 as 39 more people lost their lives to the virus in the country during the period. Of the new deceased, 32 are men while seven are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,829 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 51,495.

Prof Nasima said highest 17,999 samples were tested in 65 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 681,443 samples have so far been tested in the country. In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.92 percent, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.67 while the mortality rate is 1.28 percent. On Wednesday, Bangladesh recorded 37 deaths from coronavirus and 3,462 cases.

Meanwhile, Coronavirus cases continued to surge across the globe as 172,905 more infections were reported in the last 24 hours till 10am on Thursday.

In total, the global Covid-19 cases have reached 9,527,765, according to Worldometer. Besides, the virus has claimed the lives of 484,972 people around the world.

Of the currently infected 3,867,378 patients, 3,808,957 are in mild condition while 58,421 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 5,175,415 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Of them, 133,592 beat the virus in the last 24 hours.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,462,554 and 124,281 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,192,474 cases and 53,874 deaths.
