BD confirms 3,868 more coronavirus cases, 40 new deaths

Live Correspondent: Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have surged to 130,474 with the registration of 3,868 more infections in the past 24 hours till Friday.This is the 3rd highest jump in daily coronavirus cases in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8. 

Highest 4,008 cases were registered in the country on June 17 while 2nd highest 3,946 were recorded on June 25. Besides, the death toll from Covid-19 has stood at 1,661 with the deaths of 40 more people during the period.  Of the new deceased, 31 are men while nine are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,638 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 53,133.

Prof Nasima said highest 18,498 samples were tested in 66 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 699,941 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 20.91 percent while the infection rate 18.72 against total tests carried out so far, she said. The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.42 while the mortality rate is 1.27 percent.

On Thursday, Bangladesh recorded 39 deaths from coronavirus and 3,946 cases. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases kept soaring across the globe as 183,549 more infections were reported in the last 24 hours till 10am on Friday.

In total, the global Covid-19 cases have reached 9,711,314, according to Worldometer. Besides, the virus has claimed the lives of 491,797 people, including 6,825 during the period, around the world.

Of the currently infected 3,972,343 patients, 3,914,721 are in mild condition while 58,622 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 5,247,174 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Of them, 71,759 beat the virus in the last 24 hours.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,504,588 and 126,780 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,233,147 cases and 55,054 deaths
