Cases rise by 3,504 in Bangladesh; 34 more die

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh reported 3,504 more coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours till Saturday, taking confirmed infections in the country to 133,978. Besides, the death toll from Covid-19 has reached 1,695 after 34 more people lost their battle against the virus during the period. Of the new deceased, 32 are men while two are women.

Both the infections and deaths from coronavirus cases saw a fall than Friday’s 3,868 and 40 respectively following a downtick in the number of tests with 15,157, less by 3,341 than Friday, being carried out in the last 24 hours.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,185 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 54,318.

Prof Nasima said 15,157 samples were tested in 58 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 715,098 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 23.12 percent while the infection rate 18.81 against total tests carried out so far, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.54 while the mortality rate is 1.27 percent. On Friday, Bangladesh recorded 40 deaths from coronavirus and 3,868 cases.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases saw the biggest jump across the globe in the last 24 hours till 10am on Saturday, registering 195,271 infections in different countries.
