Bangladesh reports biggest rise in daily coronavirus deaths

Live Corespondent: Bangladesh recorded the sharpest rise yet in coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours till Tuesday. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 64 deaths during the period to take the death toll to 1,847. Of the new deceased, 52 are men while 12 are women.

Besides, confirmed coronavirus cases have jumped 145,483 with the detection of 3,682 more infections in the last 24 hours.

This is the biggest jump in coronavirus deaths in the country since the first death was reported on March 18. Previous highest 53 deaths were registered in the country on June 16. DGHS Additional Director General Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,844 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 59,624.

Prof Nasima said 2nd highest 18,426 samples were tested in 65 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 769,460 samples have so far been tested in the country. Highest 18,498 samples were tested on June 26.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 19.98 percent while the infection rate 18.98 against total tests carried out so far, she said. The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.91 while the mortality rate is 1.26 percent.

On Monday, Bangladesh recorded 45 deaths from coronavirus and record 4,014 cases. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases across the globe have reached 10,409,239 as of Tuesday morning.

Besides, the death toll from the virus has climbed to 508,084 globally, according to Worldometer. Of the currently infected 4,236,662 patients, 4,179,132 are in mild condition while 57,530 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 5,664,493 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,681,811 and 128,783 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,370,488 cases and 58,385 deaths.
