3,489 more Covid-19 cases, 46 new deaths recorded in BD

Live Correspondent: Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have jumped to 172,134 with the detection of 3,489 more infections in the last 24 hours till Wednesday. Besides, 46 more people lost their battle to Covid-19 during the period, raising the death toll in the country to 2,197.

Of the new deceased, 38 are men and eight are women. Among the total dead, 1,741 are men 456 are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon. She said 2,736 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 80,838.

Prof Nasima said 15,672 samples were tested in 75 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 892,152 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 22.26 percent while the infection rate 19.36 against total tests carried out so far, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 46.96 while the mortality rate is 1.28 percent.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh reported 55 deaths from coronavirus and 3,027 cases.Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have reached 11,950,044 around the world as of Wednesday morning.

Besides, the death toll from the virus has climbed to 546,626 globally, according to Worldometer. Of the currently infected 4,507,933 patients, 4,449,706 are in mild condition while 58,227 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 6,895,546 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 3,097,084 and 133,972 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,674,655 cases and 66,868 deaths.
