BD sees fall in daily coronavirus cases, deaths

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh reported 2,686 more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday, raising the total infections in the country to 181,129. Besides, the death toll from the virus has reached 2,305 with the deaths of 30 more people during the period.

Of the new deceased, 25 are men and five are women. Among the total dead, 1,824 are men 481 are women.

The daily infection fell by 263 than Friday’s 2,949 following a decrease in the number of tests with 11,193 being carried out in the last 24 hours against Friday’s 13,488. The country also saw fewer deaths than Friday’s 37.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon. She said 1,628 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 88,034.

Prof Nasima said 11,193 samples were tested in 77 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 932,465 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 24.09 percent while the infection rate 19.49 against total tests carried out so far, she said. The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 48.60 while the mortality rate is 1.27 percent.

On Friday, Bangladesh reported 37 deaths from coronavirus and 2,949 cases. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have surged to 12,631,067 across the world as of Saturday noon. Besides, the deadly virus has claimed the lives of 562,889 people globally, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 4,701,687 patients, 4,642,990 are in mild condition while 58,697 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 7,366,491 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 3,291,786 and 136,671 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,804,338 cases and 70,524 deaths.
