Live Correspondent: Mentioning that police are playing the rule of journalists, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said when police do journalism they realize that it is all over. “Police have all the power in the country now. When the police do journalism then understand that it is all over. A lot of power has been given to the police. They themselves say that Philips is the king of light, Hilsa is the king of fish and Police is the king of the country. What can be expected from the police when they do this without catching the thief, robber?” said Fakhrul while addressing at a discussion at National Press Club in the capital on Friday.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Law enforcement agencies are failing. They are collecting extortions by keeping the poor people behind bars. Meanwhile, they have started a new work again. The police will do journalism. But it is far-reaching.”
Criticizing the bureaucrats, the BNP secretary-general said, “If you go to the DC office in a district, you will see that they are more responsible for Awami League than the party in any programme there. There is no existence of Awami League now. Now all are Amla League.”
He further said, “The freedom of media workers has been limited in the country. The Information and Broadcasting minister said that permission should be sought from here to broadcast TV and video channels that are being aired on social media from abroad.”
Mentioning corruption in mega projects, Mirza Fakhrul said, “I saw the inauguration of Metrorail trial run on that day. People are happy and saying there would be a change. Is the change is only for these few people in Dhaka? What about the change of thousands of people? The price of everything has gone up. Prices of rice, oil, potatoes, sugar are skyrocketing.”
