Live Correspondent: Main opposition BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government must have to resign and handover power to a non-party neutral government as early as possible. Then election will be held under an impartial Election Commission. Based on the results of the election, a national government will be formed. That government will show new dreams.

Mirza Fakhrul said, "Now we will have to secure the release of our Deshnetri Khaleda Zia, bring Tareque Rahman back to the country, and take revenge of the blood of our slain co-workers." "We must have to rise and oust this unpopular, corrupt and voterless government from power through a widespread movement across the country."

He was addressing a mammoth public rally at Alia Madrasa ground in Rajshahi city on Saturday (December 12, 2022) afternoon.

Reiterating the demand of re-introducing the caretaker government system in Bangladesh again, the BNP secretary general said the caretaker government system must be reinstated for all the future elections in the country. Otherwise, there will be no election in the country."

"Obaidul Quader says that election will be held as per the constitution. Which constitution? The one which was amended again and again to serve their own purposes? The country can't run as per that constitution. They (Awami League) have amended it many times and accommodated new laws. They have formulated the notorious Digital Security Act (DSA) to gag journalists' voices. If necessary, they can arrest anyone even terming a Facebook post as 'provocative' one and deny bail to the accused," he said.

"But, we fought for a democratic state in 1971. We fought to establish the rights of all. But, Awami League doesn't want it. They want to cling to power using guns and pistols. We're not their servants. People of Bangladesh are the owner of this country," Fakhrul said.

Criticizing the government for, what he said, resorting to laundering money abroad, Fakhrul said they have been looting and laundering money abroad. "Dollar's price is now skyrocketing, because they have siphoned off the billions of dollars to Canada and Malaysia. "They have siphoned off Tk 19 lakh crore in 11 years. Now, they make tall talks of mega development though farmers are deprived of fertilizers and fair prices of their crops. There is no rice at Tk 10 per kg. But why? Because the government has laundered thousands of crores of taka."

The BNP secretary general said, "We have not launched our movement to go to power ousting Sheikh Hasina led corrupt Awami League regime. Our struggle is to restore the voting rights of people and build a beautiful nation. We must have to resist this monsterous government. We have been suppressed over the 14 years. Little children wait eagerly to see their fathers and relatives who were subject to enforced disappearances."

Mirza Fakhrul also said more than 600 BNP leaders and workers have been the victims of enforced disappearances. Nine persons including Zakaria Pintu in Ishwardi of Pabna have been sentenced to death. The government wants to eliminate the opposition by punishing them after so many years.
