IT Live: Posts, Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar today informed the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1) has created an opportunity of earning foreign currency by selling the satellite’s transponder to other countries.
“Different government and private television channels are now being broadcasted through the BS-1. The telecommunication services will be reached to the country’s remote island areas within the next six to nine months through the satellite,” he said.
Jabbar was replying to a scripted question from treasury bench lawmaker Habiba Rahman Khan tabled in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Besides, initiatives have been taken to create a ‘Telecommunication Network Backbone’ using the BS-1 to keep the important government offices connected during any natural calamities in the country, he said.
The minister informed the House that implementation work of a project titled ‘Cyber Threat and Response’ is underway under the Department of Telecommunications to remove any objectionable contents from social platforms like facebook, youtube and tweeter to protect the children and youths from online and social media addiction.
