Live Correspondent: Ro Ro Ferry Shah Jalal had hit Padma Bridge because of plying short-cut to reduce fuel expenses. It had hit pillar number 17 of the bridge after losing control due to driving at less speed (250 RPM) in favor of the current.
"The two drivers (master and skin) could avert the accident had they been crossed the river through the pillars 12 and 13 of the bridge driving the ferry somewhat against the current.
In that case, the journey could be longer and the speed could be higher. It might have required burning more fuel.
"Their objective was to pilferage the fuel and sell it in the open market," said the BIWTC's inquiry committee in its report.
The committee was constituted to investigate the reasons for hitting the Padma Bridge pillar by Ro-Ro Ferry Shah Jalal. In the report, the committee held two drivers of the ferry--master and sukani--responsible for the accident.
