NSU “Impacts, Consequences & Responses to COVID-19 in BD: A Human Security Approach"

NSU Live: The first private university and the number one ranked private university of Bangladesh, North South University (NSU) in collaboration with NSU's South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) and Center for Peace Studies (CPS) organized a virtual conference on Thursday, 18 June, 2020. The subject matter of the conference was the Impacts, Consequences and Responses to COVID-19 in Bangladesh: A Human Security Approach. The conference, which started at 11 a.m. on Zoom, focused on five issues. These include health and Well-being, Livelihood and Business, Education & Skill Development, Agriculture and Food Security and geopolitical relations.

After the introductory remarks by Professor Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, Director of SIPG, Professor Ahmed Hossain, Director, Global Health Institute of North South University discussed about the challenges we are facing for identification of corona and difficulties we are facing for the treatment of corona.

He also pointed out public health strategies to address the risks posed by immigrants, maternal mortality, infant mortality, etc. Professor Mustafizur Rahman, Distinguished Fellow Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) highlighted the impact of the 2020-2021 budget on its impact on the business sector, deficit, revenue management, direct and indirect tax and reform programs.

Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor of North South University spoke on the challenges, long-term consequences and tasks to be done in the field of education and technology in the country.

On the other hand, Mr. Anwar Faruque, Former Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladesh Government gave specific instructions on how to make the weak and risky aspects of Corona's impact on agriculture strong and promising. Recalling the ever-changing diplomatic relations around the world Mr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Senior Fellow, SIPG, NSU emphasized on strategic bilateral and renewal of international agreements and relations on human welfare, climate, migration, technology use, etc.


When people around the world are worried about the ongoing and future impact of COVID-19, Norths South University has taken initiatives to play a policy-making role in education, agriculture, business, health, etc. though this conference.

Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, NSU, Retired Brigadier General Shahedul Anam Khan and Mr. Faruq Wasif, Assistant Editor of Prothom Alo were present as speakers at the conference moderated by Dr. M Jashim Uddin, Coordinator, CPS.

Among others, Teachers and Researchers of university, media representatives, representatives of various international organizations and embassies, including the Canadian High Commission, UNESCO, foreign teachers and researchers were also present.
