“Historic 7th March” held at NSU

NSU Live: The first private university and the number one ranked private university of Bangladesh, North South University (NSU) organized a virtual discussion session on “Historic 7th March” at North South University (NSU) on Sunday, 07 March, 2021.

On this day in 1971, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called for a non-cooperation movement against the then Pakistani ruling class at the historic Race Course Filed (now Sohrawardi Uddan). In a time-honored speech, he thunderously declared, "This time the struggle is for our liberation, this time the struggle is for freedom." This call of Bangabandhu spread like lightning all over the country. The whole nation woke up dreaming of independence. This time-honored speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is one of the best political speeches in the world.

Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Director, Office of Student Affairs, NSU delivered the introductory speech at the beginning of the session. Prof. Dr. Javed Bari, Dean, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, NSU was present as the Keynote Speaker.
Former President, FBCCI, Mr. M. A. Kashem, Founder Chairman & Director, Southeast Bank and Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), North South University was present as the Chief Guest. Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed, Member, Board of Trustees, North South University were present as the Special Guest. Freedom Fighter Lion Mr. Benajir Ahmed, Former Chairman & Member, Mr. Aziz AI Kaiser, Ms. Yasmin Kamal and Mr. Tanveer Harun, Members, BoT, NSU were present. Professor M. Ismail Hossain, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NSU chaired the event.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU, Mr. M. A. Kashem said, “In the speech of Bangabandhu on March 7, all the directions for running this country existed. All the development and progress we achieved today have become possible due to the contribution Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. If Bangabandhu had not been born, this country would not have been born. We were able to achieve political, social, and economic independence of this country through the strong leadership of Bangabandhu.” During this time, he also highlighted all the

activities North South University has taken on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary celebration. Speaking as the Special Guest, Member, Board of Trustees, NSU, Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed said, “Bangladesh was born because Bangabandhu was born in this country.

This country gained independence under the strong leadership of Bangabandhu. In his speech of March 7, 1971, Bangabandhu in a very sublime manner gave instructions on all the matters to be done to get independence and all guidelines to run the country.”

In the meantime, he called upon the new generation to play a role in building the country by embracing the ideals of Bangabandhu.
Member, Board of Trustees, NSU, Mr. Benajir Ahmed said, “Inspired by Bangabandhu's speech on March 7, we freedom fighters got involved in the independence war of Bangladesh and made the country independent. All development that has been made in this country have become possible today because of
Bangabandhu’s contribution.

Pro Vice-Chancellor, NSU, Professor M. Ismail Hossain said, “Inspired by Bangabandhu's speech on March 7, the people of this country liberated this country and this speech later served as the policy guide to run the country. We have gained political freedom, but we continue to fight for freedom from hunger, poverty, illiteracy and disease. The new generation must come forward to solve these problems to make Bangabandhu's dream into reality.
Among others, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean (Acting), School of Health & Life Sciences, NSU, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Dean, School of Business & Economics, NSU, Ms. Rumana Huq Luva, Faculty Advisor of North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS), Directors of various departments, Department Heads, senior officials, faculties and students were also present at the program.
