NSU organized Virtual Orientation for newly enrolled students

NSU Live: The first private university and the number one ranked private university of Bangladesh, North South University (NSU) organized a virtual orientation for newly enrolled students of Summer Semester 2021 on Saturday, 12 June 2021. At the beginning of higher education at the university level, the new students take part in the introductory program in a virtual way. This time more than one thousand and two hundred students have got the opportunity to get admission in the graduate (honors) courses in 16 departments of the four schools of the university. The Virtual Orientation Program was broadcasted live on North South University's Official Facebook page.

H.E. Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, M.P., Honorable Foreign Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest. Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), North South University, Former President of FBCCI Mr. M. A. Kashem was present as the Special Guest. Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed, Mr. Benajir Ahmed, and Mr. Tanveer Harun, Member, Board of Trustees, NSU were present as the Guests of Honor. Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of NSU chaired the event.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Honorable Foreign Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen said, “I must tell young students, you are very lucky because you get a chance to be admitted to one of the top universities of the country. It is a great institution, possibly the first institution which got some accreditation from abroad.

I am so glad; it is maintaining a very high level of standards and most of the graduates from this university have been well placed in the job market. This is an institution that shows, if there is a will, there is a way. You, young boys and girls, if you are committed you can excel in life. He also mentioned that we learn from books, we learn from teachers, we learn from colleagues, friends and family. He told students to give importance to networking which will help them to excel in their carrier. During this time, he also mentioned that, learning is a passport to the future, if you learn you can excel in life.

Tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it. You get a good chance to study at NSU, don’t waste your time when you are around here. I am glad, NSU is doing research on Bangabandhu and Bangladesh. He asked the faculties and others to come forward and publish articles and books. He also added, I would expect our faculties of NSU to write and publish research on critical issues besides academic research.”

Speaking as the Special Guest, Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU, Mr. M. A. Kashem said, “We have been successfully conducting all the classes of the university online even during the Corona epidemic and the attendance of students in these online classes is 93% which is more than regular classes. To honor the heroic freedom fighters of 1971, so far North South University has been given 1300 students from the families of the freedom fighters the opportunity to study without pay. NSU has provided financial assistance of Tk. 150 crore to the students since its inception. NSU has provided about Tk. 82 crore last three semesters in the form of tuition fees waiver to support the students during the pandemic. In addition, NSU has awarded special consideration scholarships to students whose parents have died in the Corona pandemic. Education is the backbone of a nation.

It is not possible to present a beautiful and progressive country without an educated nation. Education builds values in a nation, develops humanity. For this, in order to develop a country, most attention needs to be paid to the education sector. At present, the government has given the largest budget to the education sector after the health sector. I think this is a very timely decision. The purpose of North South University is to advance knowledge, which is not possible without a safe and comfortable learning environment. The authority of North South University is committed to creating a sense of discipline among students.” During this time, he thanked the parents for keeping their trust on NSU and welcomed the newly enrolled students to North South University.”

Vice-Chancellor of North South University, Professor Atiqul Islam said, “As a student, you want to learn from scholars, I can assure you, NSU has the most qualified and most caring staff here. NSU programs have all national and international accreditation. NSU is ranked highly in all Rankings. Our business school is in the 351-400 list of top business schools among the world as in the QS World University Rankings. We do joint research with many prestigious institutions. Based on the latest submission of the University Grant Commission, in terms of research output, the total research of our university is more than the top nine universities together. We have the best educational technology in the country in the form of Canvas.

Students come to a university for a good job, NSU graduates enjoy 100% employments. NSU has ranked in the top 500 lists among the whole world by the Graduate Employability Rankings. I wish the parents will have a watchful eye so that this journey of the students becomes smooth. He also thanked the esteemed parents for keeping their trust in North South University.”

Among others, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NSU, Registrar, Dean of four schools, Faculties, Department Heads, Directors, Officials, and Distinguished Guests were also present. A large number of guardians and students were also connected in the virtual orientation through a live broadcast on North South University's Official Facebook Page.
