NSU: Seminar on Climate Smart Agriculture

NSU Live: North South University (NSU) and World Vision Bangladesh jointly organized a national level research sharing seminar on Climate Smart Agriculture at North South University.

The Honorable MP, Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury presided at the seminar as the Chief Guest and Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of NSU was present as the Session Chair.

The Special Guests were Suresh Bartlett, National Director of World Vision Bangladesh; Chandan Z. Gomes, Senior Director of Operations and Program Quality, World Vision Bangladesh; Mr. Abdul Muqeed Majumdar, Chairman of Prokriti o Jibon foundation.

Mr. Ataus Sopan Malik, Managing Director of A R Malik Seeds; Meher Nigar Bhuiyan, Programme Manager of Resilient Livelihoods, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh and Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean of School of Health and Life Sciences, NSU.

Md. Jakariya, PhD, The Principal Investigator of the project “Assessment of the effectiveness of climate smart agriculture in Bangladesh” presented his research findings. He elaborately discussed about the research on innovative climate smart practices and techniques in the five physiographic regions of Bangladesh – Char, Haor, Floodplain, Coastal region and Hill tracts.

The presentation was followed by an open discussion where the participants shared their insights and asked pertinent questions regarding the ongoing climate change and the future and prospects of agriculture in Bangladesh. The honorable MP expressed his valuable thoughts about tackling climate change in the agriculture sector.

He emphasized about promoting cooperation through public-private partnership and welcomed research ideas for effective policy formulation at the national level by incorporating local response.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Atiqul Islam also stressed about the importance of climate resilient agricultural practices in ensuring food security.
