NSU Celebrates World Pharmacists Day

NSU Live: On the occasion of World Pharmacists Day 2022, North South University Pharmaceutical Club (NSPUC) in association with the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, NSU conducted a rally on 25th September 2022 to highlight the unity between pharmacists and their relentless efforts to create a healthier world. The spirit of the rally was in accordance with this year’s theme Pharmacy United in Action for a Healthier World”, as set by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). 

This theme was set to showcase the cumulative efforts of the pharmaceutical industry and its significant role in optimizing healthcare services globally. FIP reflects on the role of pharmacists to establish the safe administration of drugs, and the necessity of a united community of pharmacists all over the world to make further advancements.

Although these efforts have been impeded largely by the pandemic, it has also shown the importance of pharmaceutical sciences in the face of a global health crisis. A day dedicated to the pharmacy profession acts as an opportunity to promote pharmaceutical services.

The rally aimed to create further awareness of the continuous diligence of pharmacists to make rational use of medication more accessible, which was elucidated in the speeches of the respected guests and faculties present.

To inaugurate this event, the Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor of NSU, Dr. M Ismail Hossain shared his delight in seeing the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department always striving for building awareness through a multitude of events annually. His speech shed light on the work of pharmacists in a variety of sectors, including Production in the industrial sector,

Quality Assurance and Quality Control of medication, as well as Marketing, making Pharmaceutical Sciences a multidisciplinary field. “I congratulate all the young pharmacists before me. The role of pharmacists in building a healthier world and decreasing the burden of non-communicable and communicable diseases is indispensable to our community,” he adds.

The honorable Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza reflected on this pertinent day by encouraging the further establishment of the work of pharmacists in our community. He also spoke of the inadequate recognition of the role played by pharmacists in the country. He also expressed that only the involvement of pharmacists in healthcare services can ensure a healthier world!

Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, NSU, Dr. GM Sayedur Rahman said, “The involvement of pharmacists in every sector of healthcare is yet to be established in our country. However, we have been working towards integrating pharmacists in every stage of healthcare, starting from the industrial sector to patient counseling.

” Faculty Advisor of NSUPC, Ms. Anika Tabassum Bristy, along with the respected faculty members of the Pharmaceutical Sciences department were present to boost the morale of students participating.
