Seminar on Coronavirus held at Jahangirnagar Versity

JU Live: As a part of creating awareness about coronavirus, a seminar titled 'Emergence and Outbreak of Novel Coronavirus: Awareness and Precaution' was held on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Tuesday.  

The Public Health and Informatics department of the university organised the seminar at the Senate Hall room of the old administrative building this morning.

Associate Professor of Parasitology at the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) Dr Fahmida Khanam addressed the seminar as chief guest and delivered a keynote speech.

In the speech, she said, "Coronavirus is a life-threatening virus. The outbreak of the virus has rapidly evolved affecting several parts of China and outside the country. Cases have now been detected in several countries in Asia.

The horror of the disease has created a worldwide panic today. So it's important to resist it right now. There should be widespread dissemination of information across the country to make people aware of the coronavirus.'

The speakers of the seminar also urged the government, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), especially the people, to come forward to fight against coronavirus so that the virus might not spread in the country.

Presided over by the chairman of Public Health and Informatics department Associate Professor Md Tajuddin Shikder, chairman of Microbiology department Shuvra Kanti Dey and the technical advisor of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr Mohammad Mushtuk Husain spoke as guest speakers in the seminar.
