Live Correspondent: The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists who were deprived of any posts in the newly announced full-fledged committee have postponed their protest on assurance that their demands will be met.

Spokesperson of the deprived Chhatra League faction, and also former publicity secretary of the body, Saif Babu confirmed the matter around 1:30am on Monday, after a meeting with senior Awami League leaders was held at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s office in Dhanmondi.

He said: “We called off the protest as our demands have been met. Our demands were: to drop controversial members from the newly announced committee of Chhatra League and employ more competent members.

Chhatra League Central President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and General Secretary Golam Rabbani were also present at the time. Expressing sorrow at the Madhur Canteen attack, Golam Rabbani said: “We will dismiss four men in connection to the attack. If there are others involved with it, they will be dismissed too.”

On Sunday, the deprived Bangladesh Chhatra League members were allegedly attacked by the organization’s general secretary and his followers inside the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).

As a response to the attack, which left numbers injured, the deprived and higher-post-seeking Chhatra League members went on a hunger strike at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture amid rainfall.
