Students-teachers take oath to resist terrorism, communalism on BUET campus

BUET Live: Students and teachers of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have taken a mass oath to resist terrorism and communal forces. Through this mass oath the students suspended their field level movement. Mahmudur Rahman Sayem, a 15th batch student announced this on behalf of the students.

The students and teachers observed the program at around 1:15 pm on Wednesday at BUET central auditorium. BUET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Deans of different faculties, acting Director of students’ welfare department Md. Abdul Basit, different hall Provosts, teachers and students took part in the oath taking program. Rafia Rizwana, a student of 17th batch administered the oath.

The students and teachers observed one minute silence in remembrance of Abrar Fahad before the oath taking.

The oath taking speeches said, I hereby pledge that I will perform all the personal and collective ethical and humanitarian responsibilities bestowed upon me with utmost honesty and sincerity to ensure welfare and security of all people concerned with this university.

I will be vocal against every unjust, unlawful activity and discrimination occurs on this university campus.

It also said, we will resist all types of terrorism and emergence of communal evil forces in the university. We will root out all types of cultural discrimination and misuse of power with ethical forces.

We will collectively ensure that no one is fallen victim of repression or to sacrifice life.   

Mentionable, in the night of October 6, Abrar Fahad, a second year student of electrical and electronics engineering department was beaten to death by some BUET unit Chhatra League leaders and activists.

From that period the students were waging movement demanding 10-point demand. Later BUET administration accepted the demands of the students.
