Int’l Math Confce begins at DU

DU Live: A three-day long International Mathematics Conference has begun today at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the event as chief guest. The Department of Applied Mathematics of DU and Bangladesh Mathematical Society have jointly organized this conference with a theme of “Mathematics: Challenges and Reality”.

President of Bangladesh Mathematical Society Prof. Dr. Md. Mubarak Hossain presided over the inaugural function while Dean of the Faculty of Science of DU Prof. Dr. Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury addressed it as special guest. Chairman of the Department of Applied Mathematics Prof. Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam delivered welcome address and Secretary of Bangladesh Mathematical Society Prof. Dr. Amulya Chandra Mandal gave vote of thanks.

Terming the mathematics as the language of all sciences DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, young generation must gather mathematical knowledge to achieve sustainable development goal. He stressed the need for undertaking joint collaborative research on mathematics among the University of Dhaka and other renowned universities around the world to face the global challenges. He hoped that this event would create a common platform for researchers and mathematicians in this regard.

It may be mentioned that academicians and researchers from Bangladesh, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, USA, KSA, Nepal, South Africa, Portugal, Philippines,   Ireland, and India are participating in the conference.
