UGC for shutting evening courses at public universities

Live Correspondent: The University of Grant Commission (UGC) today issued a 13-point guideline for the, including shutting evening courses and proper performing of the duties by vice-chancellors.

The UGC also asked the universities to follow the existing university rules in recruiting and promoting teachers and other employees and take approval from the UGC before opening new departments and positions.

A letter, signature by UGC member Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, have been sent to the vice-chancellors of all public universities in this regard, said a press release here.

The release said that the President’s office, the Prime Minister’s office, and education ministry have been informed about the directives.

The UGC asked the university authorities to abide by the law of the government and the university as well while giving employment and promotion, the release said, adding it is not right to promote the teachers and other employees to upper grades from lower ones and to give ‘session benefit’ facilities which are out of rules.

The UGC also asked the university authorities to run the financial activities as per the ‘financial rules’ and to ensure transparency and accountability in the financial activities of all academic and administrative activities.

The commission urged the all concerned authorities to cooperate all universities to ensure the transparency and accuracy in the country’s higher education.
