Jamie believes Qatar qualifiers gives good start for youngsters

 

Live Correspondent: National team head coach Jamie Day said that the joint qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 have given his young players a good experience and a good start for their future international games.

"I think the performance of the players has been very good, their attitude has been very fantastic. In the case of young players, it was a fantastic experience. Not only the two games, but the whole qualifiers will give them a good start in going forward for international games," said Jamie ahead of Bangladesh's eighth and last match of Group E against Oman on Monday.

The match will be held at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha at 11 pm. The 184th-ranked Bangladesh is currently at the bottom of the five-team Group E of joint qualifiers with 2 points from two draws while the 80th-ranked Oman is second with 15 points from five wins.

"We know it is going to be an extremely tough game tomorrow (Tuesday). We know they (Oman) are higher ranked than us and are expecting to win, but it will be a great experience for our players and we are looking forward to the match tomorrow," said he while asking about their preparations against Oman.

The men in red and green started their campaign in joint qualifiers with the hope to earn points which will help them earn a slot in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup.

Though they earn one point against Afghanistan from a 1-1 draw but conceded a fatal 0-2 defeats against India that shattered their dream of Asian Cup qualifiers third round.

"If you don’t take chances and you give time and space to good players, you will get punished. That is what happened in some of our games. We were so close in some matches. I'm disappointed that we have not got some more points but I think we have got some experience for the future," he added.

"I think we have made a lot of progress in our time. If Bangladesh wants to be a strong team in Asia, we need to change the whole structure in our country. We need to train players from the early ages 6,7,8,9, 10. Also, we need international programs regularly as we are the international team," the English coach added.
