Live Correspondent: A tribunal in Dhaka on Sunday framed charges against former national team cricketer Al-Amin Hossain in a domestic violence case. Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 Judge Mafroja Parveen framed the charges against Al-Amin in a case filed on charges of torturing his wife, Ishrat Jahan, and demanding dowry from her.

The tribunal also set April 9 for recording testimonies of witnesses in the case. Judge Mafroja Parveen read out the charges and asked the accused whether he is guilty or not. The accused pleaded not guilty and asked for justice.

On February 2, Mirpur Model Police Station inspector Sohel Rana, an investigation officer, submitted the chargesheet in the case before Metropolitan Magistrate Ataullah after the allegation brought in the case has been proved primarily.

According to the case statement, Al-Amin married Ishrat Jahan on December 26, 2012, and his wife subsequently gave birth to two sons.

Ishrat also alleged that Al-Amin did not provide her maintenance and educational expenses for the two sons for many days.

He rather demanded Tk 20 lakh as dowry from his wife and used to beat her as she had refused to pay the amount. He also drove her out of the house with their two sons on August 25. On that day, Al-Amin also punched and kicked her and threatened to divorce her. He also filed a false case against her. Ishrat's uncle took her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment, it added.

On September 1, Ishrat lodged a complaint with Mirpur Model police against him over torturing her for dowry. Later, the police registered a case.

On September 3, Al Amin sent a message to Ishrat that he will not provide her maintenance and divorced her. On September 6, the High Court granted Al-Amin anticipatory bail for eight weeks in the case over the torture of his wife for dowry.
