Live Correspondent: Elite force Rab’s legal and media wing director Lt Col Ashiq Billah has described Shahed Karim, the fugitive owner of Regent Hospital, as an idol in the world of cheating.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, he said they will arrest Shahid, who had a unique style of deception, at any time.

He said they are receiving many new allegations against Shahed Karim. The latest complaint we have got is about Regent College or Regent University. “He (Shahed) has given fake certificates to the students of these unauthorised institutions. As a result, not only the lives of the students have been ruined, but also their personal lives have been affected.”

Ashiq said they have so far got information about more than 50 cases against Shahed, and all of them have been filed on charge of fraudulence.  He said people who were deceived by Shahed are coming forward to file complaints against him.

Asked about Shahed’s photographs with influential people, the Rab official said, “We need to have an idea about Shahid's pictures with journalists, politicians, bureaucrats and other important people. Having his pictures with other people does not mean that they were his patrons…this also does not mean that the important persons took pictures with Shahid knowing that he was a fraud.

When an important person of the state takes a picture with someone, it is a courtesy. If there is any patronage behind this, it must be investigated by the investigating officer.”

He said Shahed could not flee the country as law enforcers are ready to arrest him.“Shahed is an idol in the world of cheating. Shahid is a unique example of how one can reach a stage by using deception and cheating ordinary people,” the Rab official observed.

He said law enforcers have been put on alert in the frontier areas so that Shahed cannot flee the country.
